Nurse Summer Internship
Program Dates
June 3, 2019 to August 9, 2019
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in the Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program.
- Must be between junior and senior years during the Summer of 2019.
- Must be enrolled in a Summer Internship Nursing Course.
- Must have GPA of 2.75 or above.
This program requires your participation for the entire 10-week schedule,
except for emergencies or illness. Applicants need to be enrolled in a
Summer Internship Nursing Course during the 10-week internship. Any exceptions
or special circumstances must be discussed during the interview process.
Orientation
You
must attend an 8-hour orientation session (0800-1630) on June 3, 2019. No exceptions can be made.

Each position will be a 0.6 fte (48 hours per pay period).

Hours: Interns will be scheduled every other weekend and rotate shifts
based on their preceptor's schedule.

PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency
St. Luke's is proud to offer a one-year postgraduate PGY1 ASHP-accredited
pharmacy practice residency program. The program is designed for practitioners
who are looking for a comprehensive pharmacy residency experience. St.
Luke's residency program provides the resident with an opportunity
to further develop their skills in Adult Internal Medicine, Critical Care
Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Medication Therapy Management and Pharmacy
Practice Management. Additional elective rotations are available in Home
Care/Hospice, Outpatient Infusion Therapy/Oncology, Informatics, Academia
and Emergency Department Medicine. Residents are also involved with pharmacy
students at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy Duluth Campus
by working as teaching assistants in the clinical skills lab. Didactic
lecturing experiences at the College of Pharmacy are also available for
residents who are interested in such an opportunity. If desired, the resident
may also complete a teaching certificate.
Projects
Each resident will learn project management skills while working on one
major research project. Results of the project will be presented at the
Midwest Pharmacy Residency Conference and a manuscript will be written
for the project. Additionally, residents will conduct a Medication Use
Evaluation (MUE), with the results being reported to the appropriate hospital
committee(s).
Staffing
Residents will work every other weekend, working in the central pharmacy
one weekend and as a clinical pharmacist on the other weekend. Residents
have a day off either before or after they work the weekend. The staffing
commitment begins in mid-August and runs through the end of the residency
year, with the exception of the weekend preceding the ASHP Midyear Clinical
meeting. Residents are required to work two holidays a year. One winter
holiday, either Thanksgiving or New Year's Day, and one summer holiday,
either Labor Day or Memorial Day.
Stipend
Annual stipend is $50,000.

official college transcript, letter of intent, and project or presentation.

and preceptors
PGY2 Pharmacy Practice Residency
St. Luke's is proud to offer a one-year postgraduate PGY2 pharmacotherapy
residency program. The program is designed with a focus on the pharmacotherapy
of our patients as they transition though various settings of care. These
transitions include admission into the hospital, transfers among inpatient
care units, and discharge from the emergency department, outpatient surgery,
or hospital stay back to the care of their primary care provider. St.
Luke's residency program provides the resident with an opportunity
to further develop their skills in both inpatient and ambulatory patient
care. Rotations include orientation, acute care, pharmacy management,
ambulatory care, research, academia, and emergency department transitions
of care. Residents are also involved with pharmacy students at the University
of Minnesota College of Pharmacy Duluth Campus by working as teaching
assistants and in opportunities for additional teaching experiences. If
desired, the resident may also complete a teaching certificate.
Projects

of patient transitions of care. Results of the project will be presented
at the Midwest Pharmacy Residency Conference and a manuscript will be
written for the project. Residents will also complete several smaller
projects as part of their various rotations.

Residents will work every fourth weekend, working as a clinical pharmacist
in a decentral or transitions of care role. The staffing commitment begins
in late August and runs through the end of the residency year.

Student Experience
*Due to overwhelming demand, we are currently unable to accept requests
for job shadowing without a confirmed preceptor or a sponsor.
St. Luke's is proud to offer students opportunities to learn about
careers in the health care environment. Student requests are coordinated
through St. Luke's Education Department, and students must be covered
by an affiliation agreement with their college/university.
Placements are not guaranteed. Please allow a minimum of four weeks to
process your request. Job shadowing experiences are observation-only and
typically last from four to eight hours.
