Colonoscopy

Preventing cancer and maintaining bowel health

A colonoscopy is a procedure that allows a doctor to view the large intestine. The doctor uses a colonscope, a device with a camera and a long, thin tube, to view the tissue in the colon and rectum. Colonoscopy is used to look for early signs of colon cancer, for causes of changes in bowel habits and to evaluate symptoms such as abdominal pain, rectal bleeding and weight loss.
