Lake View Hospital Joins National Campaign to Save Lives Through Donation and Transplantation

April is National Donate Life Month, a month-long recognition of those
who have given the gifts of life, and to encourage others to register
themselves as organ, eye, and tissue donors. Today, there are over 121,000
men, women and children waiting for the lifesaving gift of an organ transplant.
Due to the organ shortage, 22 of these people will die today waiting.
In response to this growing national concern, Lake View Hospital has partnered
with LifeSource in a national initiative to raise awareness about the
importance of registering to be a donor.
The hospital campaign is a special effort of the Workplace Partnership
for Life (WPFL), an initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration to enlist
companies and organizations to be partners in promoting donor registration.
The campaign, which has helped to register more than 325,000 enrollments
to state registries, aims to add more donor designations by May 2016.
Lake View Hospital supports donation through a robust donation program
including annual training for nursing and staff. Since 2010, Lake View
Hospital has had the privilege of caring for five tissue donors and their
families. Each tissue donor has the potential to improve or enhance up
to 60 lives: that’s 300 individuals who are living healthier, happier
lives as a result of the generosity of our community.
"Lake View Hospital is committed to continuing our efforts to promote
organ donation from patients cared for in our organization. We work closely
with families in a compassionate manner to ensure that the wishes of their
loved ones are carried out," said Greg Ruberg, Administrator of Lake
View Hospital.
As part of this national initiative, we urge you to learn more about the
importance of donation by visiting
DonateLife.net or
Life-Source.org. And please take a few minutes today to add your name to our state’s
donor registry. Someday you may save a life. Visit
DonateLifeMN.org to find out how.
