A new, $100,000 weapon in the fight against breast cancer was unveiled at St. Luke's on October 23, 2013.

The Faxitron BioVision machine is a portable x-ray system used to image tissue specimens from biopsies taken from women with suspected breast cancer.

It is used both in St. Luke's Breast Center and transported to the operating rooms for use during surgical procedures. Its presence in the operating suite while patient biopsies are performed introduces real time communication between radiologists and surgeons, potentially reducing anesthesia time for patients.

The Faxitron BioVision machine is the first of its kind in the region and was funded through a donation to St. Luke's Foundation by the Women Rock event staged by Charter Media and supported by Como Oil's Project Pink propane truck.
