Trigger Point Dry Needling
Trigger Point Dry Needling (TPDN) can be used to help a variety of musculoskeletal
problems that cause pain. It is an excellent way to improve range of motion
and decrease muscle or tendon pain. Dry needling is offered by specially
trained physical therapist.
What is TPDN?
Myofascial trigger points are hyper-irritable spots in the connective tissue
that surrounds skeletal muscle. Pain can radiate from these taut bands
of tissue (trigger points) to broader areas in the body. TPDN uses a thin
filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate these trigger points.
This helps increase circulation and decrease persistent pain.
Common conditions treated with dry needling include:
- Neck and back pain
- Shoulder/elbow/hand pain
- Hip/knee/foot pain
- Buttock and leg pain (sciatica, hamstring strains, calf tightness or spasms)
- Plantar fasciitis
- Scar tissue restrictions or pain
