TMD Services
Pain in the jaw area and associated muscles such as headaches, neck pain,
or vertigo may fall under a set of conditions known as TMD (temporomandibular
disorders).
St. Luke’s offers physical therapy evaluations to address this TMD-related
pain. The referring physician will receive a comprehensive written report
after the evaluation, as well as a treatment plan to address the pain.
The physical therapist who performed the initial evaluation will carry-out
the therapy. The number of sessions will vary according to individual needs.
The physical therapy treatment plan may include some of the following:
- Posture and sleep position correction
- Jaw clenching reduction strategies and education
- Manual therapy to include joint and soft tissue mobilization
- Therapeutic exercise
- An individualized home program
- Ultrasound, electrical stimulation, or cold laser
Therapy could also include biofeedback, relaxation techniques, or stress
management with a separate referral.
