Stroke Rehab Program

Improving function and independence

The Stroke Rehab Program treats adults who have difficulties after recovery from stroke. Our team helps each patient make the physical and emotional adjustments and adaptations needed to regain control of his or her life again.

Types of Difficulties

  • Weakness or paresis
  • Swallowing difficulty
  • Decreased balance/instability
  • Decreased ability to coordinate movement
  • Decreased ability to feel
  • Touch
  • Pain
  • Position
  • Loss of bowel and bladder function
  • Problems understanding and using language
  • Problems with thinking and memory
  • Emotional disturbances

Program Services

  • Therapy provided by a multidisciplinary team, including:
    • SaeboFlex, which assists with relearning to use the affected upper extremity
    • VitalStim®, which assists with relearning to swallow
    • Neuro-Developmental Treatment, a specialized approach for treating hemiplegia
  • Health management, including nutrition, skin, bowel and bladder problems, and self-medication administration programs
  • Mobility training
  • Activities of daily living training (bathing, grooming, eating, cooking, etc.)
  • Adaptive equipment assessments
  • Cognitive retraining (memory, problem solving, reasoning, etc.)
  • Psychological support for patient and family
  • Community reentry
  • Patient and family education
  • Discharge planning
