What is the difference between plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery?

In general, plastic or cosmetic surgery is performed to improve appearance. Because these procedures tend to be elective, they’re not usually covered by health insurance. Reconstructive surgery is frequently performed to improve physical functioning or appearance that has been impacted by trauma, infection, cancer or genetics. Although reconstructive surgery is often covered by health insurance, ask your insurance provider about your individual policy.

How long does it take to recover after plastic or reconstructive surgery?

The recovery period depends on the specific procedure, as well as individual factors such as medical history, support system and current health status. For example, after undergoing a facelift, you may want to wait one to two weeks before returning to work. After breast reconstruction, many patients resume their normal activities within a week or two.

What is skin resurfacing, and how long does it take to heal after this procedure?

Skin resurfacing solutions include laser resurfacing, chemical peels, dermabrasion and microdermabrasion. Although it is a non-surgical procedure, skin resurfacing can result in skin redness that can last up to four weeks.

What can I do to reduce age-related wrinkles and skin spots?

After your initial consultation, your health care professional will recommend the most effective treatment options for your skin type and personal goals. These can include light-based skin rejuvenation therapy, skin resurfacing, chemical peels, Botox® and fillers.

What is the difference between Botox® and fillers?

Botox® injections relax the muscle, which diminishes unwanted lines. Patients can expect to see changes in appearance between 3 and 7 days after treatment. Fillers are designed to replace lost volume in the face and hands, reducing the effects of aging. Many fillers offer immediate results and no downtime.

How often will I need to have Botox® injections?

Generally, results last 3 to 4 months. Treatment can usually be repeated as the effects wear off.
