Growing up in Denver, Dr. Watkins was an avid skier and learned to take
advantage of Colorado's mountains. However, skiing was not the only
way in which Dr. Watkins kept active. He also participated in track, football,
tennis and basketball. His involvement in these activities exposed him
to many different types of sports-related injuries, leading to his interest
in sports medicine.
Dr. Watkins is especially interested in athletic injuries and helping people
maintain their desired activity levels as long as possible. He is a member
of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, and has been published
in Clinical Anatomy, a peer-reviewed medical journal. Dr. Watkins has
also been fellowship trained in sports medicine; his specialties include
replacing and reconstructing shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. He believes
that motion is life, reinforcing his passion for keeping patients active
and moving.
Dr. Watkins chose to practice in Duluth because it is a great city in which
to raise his family, and it offers a great balance of activities in both
his personal and professional lives. A typical weekend for Dr. Watkins
includes enjoying outdoor activities with his wife and children, playing
guitar or cheering on the Broncos and the Avalanche. With his fast-paced
lifestyle, it is no surprise that driving a Ferrari is first on Dr. Watkins'
bucket list.
