Dr. Timothy Kufahl joined St. Luke's Duluth Internal Medicine Associates
in September 2015 and is board certified in family medicine. He is also
a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Minnesota Academy
of Family Physicians, the Lake Superior Medical Society, and the Wilderness
Medical Society.
Before he chose family medicine, Dr. Kufahl studied engineering, physical
therapy, biochemistry, and basic science research. Throughout these studies,
he felt something was missing—interacting personally with patients.
Dr. Kufahl spent much of his training at rural clinics, and because of
its personal aspect, knew that family medicine was where he belonged.
Dr. Kufahl revolves his practice around forming a strong relationship with
his patients. His philosophy of care is that the patient-physician relationship
is a partnership built on honesty and trust. One piece of medical advice
that Dr. Kufahl would give patients is to get eight hours of sleep per
night; sleep is the most underrated aspect of physical and mental health.
Dr. Kufahl grew up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, exploring the outdoors.
Though his medical training took him elsewhere, he is glad to be back
in the Northwoods in Duluth. Dr. Kufahl and his wife chose Duluth, not
only because of the great outdoors scene, but also because of the growing
community of young professionals and the outstanding medical and arts
communities. When he is not outdoors, Dr. Kufahl can be found woodworking,
slow-cooking, fermenting, or home brewing.
