The front line in the fight against cancer
One of the most powerful tools that an oncologist has in the fight against
cancer is access to the newest cancer drugs. New drugs are being developed
and tested all the time through a multi-step process called
clinical trials. These trials are rigidly controlled and are designed to test the efficacy
of new drugs on specific types of cancer.
The Whiteside Institute for Clinical Research is St. Luke’s research
department and allows the Regional Cancer Center to conduct clinical trials
that would normally only be available at much larger institutions.
If your physician thinks there may be a clinical trial available for you
to consider, it will be introduced to you and if you are interested, we
will connect you with a member of our research staff to learn more.

Whiteside Institute for Clinical Research
The Whiteside Institute for Clinical Research is a joint effort between
St. Luke's and the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth to
support patient-oriented clinical research in the areas of cancer, lung
and heart disease. Support for Whiteside Institute research activities
also comes from government agencies and pharmaceutical companies. Whenever
appropriate, patients are offered the opportunity to participate in clinical
trials and research studies.
