The BLS Instructor Update Course assists St. Luke’s Hospital aligned
AHA BLS Instructors in maintaining their instructor status.
Prerequisites:
- Hold a current AHA BLS Instructor card.
- A completed instructor monitor tool from the current two-year certification
period is on file with the Training Center.
- Taught at least four classes in the current two-year certification period.
- Attended curriculum update sessions, as applicable, within the previous
two years.
Course Objectives:
- Describe the target audience for BLS.
- Describe the content of the BLS course.
- Demonstrate correct resuscitation skills of all age categories in a scenario-based
format using the current critical skills testing checklist.
- Describe manikin maintenance requirements and demonstrate correct manikin
cleaning and decontamination techniques.
- Identify materials and resources for continued study and development as
a BLS Instructor.
- Describe the role of a BLS Instructor, including teaching requirements,
record-keeping procedures, rosters, and evaluations for communication
with the aligned Training Center.
Requirements for Completion:
- Successfully demonstrate all provider skills.
- Pass the BLS Provider and Instructor Essentials written exams with a score
of 84% or higher on each.
- Complete the Instructor Renewal Checklist.
- Complete BLS Instructor Course Evaluation form.
