The American Heart Association HeartCode BLS course is intended for health
care professionals and others seeking an alternative method for completing
an initial or renewal BLS course.
HeartCode BLS utilizes a variety of eLearning tools such as dramatizations,
eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities
to teach students BLS knowledge and skills.
HeartCode BLS is a 2 part blended learning program.
Part 1 is an online, self-paced instructional program.
Part 2 is a hands-on skills testing session. The skills session can be completed
during a HeartCode BLS Skills Only class, in which students attend a structured
skills testing session with an AHA Instructor. This session focuses on
meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of
local protocols, and skills testing. Alternatively, St. Luke’s employees
who have access to the HealthStream Learning Center may choose to complete
the required skills testing with the use of Voice Assisted Manikins (VAM).
